Forced dehydration can (and often does) cause dangerous heart arrhythmias which can (and DOES) lead to death. If not fatal, it can lead to damage to the heart. Risky business, to say the least.

Secondly, to cut weight to make the class limit and then to quickly regain the weight loss (possibly adding more weight) can make the fighter significantly heavier than either what’s allowed or significantly heavier than his opponent. THAT, in my opinion, is cheating. I don’t care if both fighters do it. I don’t care how widespread it is. If I had the opportunity, I’d weigh every fighter two hours before the bout. Keep the fighters healthy and safe; keep integrity in the sport.
